The Käthe Kollwitz Peace Run Manifesto

FOR PEACE, FRIENDSHIP AND SOLIDARITY
AGAINST EXPLOITATION, RACISM EN IMPERIALISM
FOR THE RIGHT FOR FREEDOM AND SOVEREIGNITY
FOR THE RIGHT OF EQUAL AND WORTHY TREATMENT OF EVERY HUMAN BEING

Since 1997 the Käthe Kollwitz Collective has organized an annual Peace Run in Ypres, situated in the Westhoek, battlefield ofWW I. Millions of soldiers were forced to fight each other during WW I, incited by maddening nationalism. They were mere canon fodder that served the economic interests of the superpowers.
Peter Kollwitz was killed in action together
with 10 million others. His mother, the German artist Käthe Kollwitz, made a sculpture in remembrance of her son:
The Mourning Parents.
Käthe Kollwitz and her art constitute an
indictment of this insane war and a symbol for the Run's concept of peace.

Today the force of arms has drastically increased. Since 1990 interventionist wars have taken place in Iraq, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Gaza, Libia … In other parts of the world conflicts are raging and Western powers are threatening even far more countries.
The occupation of the Palestinian territories continues. Mostly the insatiable hunger for raw
materials and occupation play a key role in these conflicts.
As a result, militarization strides
along rapidly. NATO, in which Belgium is becoming more and more active, is a military alliance that is still expanding.
The United States and the European Union impose budget cuts in education and health care and there is also a budgetary shortage for pensions.
Meanwhile more and more resources are being squandered on new armaments. Will this serve peace?

In Northern Africa and the Middle East a hopeful message can be heard. The power of the people to fight for peace and freedom has won from suppression by rulers who could count on the support of the West. Sports is a means to unify people of all nationalities and cultures.
The Käthe Kollwitz Peace Run wants to make an appeal for peace, friendship and solidarity and wants to contribute to a
world where everyone has got equal rights and opportunities.

This year’s Peace Run takes place on Saturday the 22 of October ( Fenix , Ypres )
